Kintamani (Bali)

Kintamani sits on the high volcanic plateau around Mount Batur in the north of Bali, where coffee is grown alongside citrus trees under a traditional cooperative system called subak abian, rooted in Balinese Hindu philosophy. That intercropping and the volcanic soil give Kintamani arabica a distinctive bright, clean profile, with lively citrus acidity, floral notes and a lighter body than the Sumatra cup. In 2008 it became the first Indonesian coffee to receive a protected geographic indication, recognising both its origin and its farming culture.
