Pache

Pache is a natural mutation of Typica discovered on a farm in Guatemala in 1949, taking its name from the family or farm where it was first noticed. Like other Typica and Bourbon dwarf mutations, it grows as a compact plant, which allows denser planting and generally higher yield than tall Typica while keeping a similar cup profile. Following its discovery the variety spread through Guatemala and into neighbouring Central American countries by mass selection on private farms. It later became a parent, crossed with Caturra, in the breeding of Pache Colis, extending its influence into other Central American varieties bred for compact growth and improved productivity.
