SL34

SL34 was selected in the late 1930s, also by Scott Agricultural Laboratories in Kenya, from a single tree on the Loresho estate in Kabete known locally as French Mission. That name points to its deeper origin: Bourbon seed planted by French missionaries at a mission in Kenya's Taita Hills in the 1890s, later distributed to settler farms. Like its sibling selection SL28, SL34 is renowned for exceptional cup quality, typically bright and complex, and is grown mostly in Kenya, tolerating higher rainfall somewhat better than SL28. It remains highly susceptible to coffee berry disease, which keeps its cultivation largely confined to Kenya's well managed estates and cooperatives.
